each - "Each" — pronoun or adverb

I am looking at these two sentences:

A) M and W are letters that each have 4 strokes.
B) M and W are letters and each has 4 strokes.
  1. M and W are letters that each have 4 strokes. 2. M and W are letters and each has 4 strokes.

It seems that "each"each is an adverb in A(1) but a pronoun in B(2). Can anyone explain why "each"each is not a pronoun in A(1)?
