Correct use of the verb in terms of pronoun and number
@tinlyx answer is correct. Note to OP: If all of the verbs were to agree with “I”, the sentence would need to be “…but rather am trying…”

What does "2.2 kids" mean?
Like the duplicate says, it is not literally 2.2 kids- It is not 2 kids who have a status 10% better. It is an average for the country. And this place was so stereotypically ideal that they each had the exact average number of kids. (Not really- it is a joke.)

Is there a term specifically applying to a three-word portmanteau?
Hey @Community bot: the answer was itself a portmanteau. Friedrich: I pronounce the last syllable of portmanteau “tu” so how about “portmanthree”?

Why does the word "experience" have a different initial vowel from that in "expert" and "expertise"?
I am almost certain that I pronounce all three with same initial vowel sound.

Someone is "unable to be reached"
Agree with @FumbleFingers. If one is going to complain about the construction, one may as well complain about the use of “unable.”

Why do South Indians call restaurants 'hotels'?
A similar phenomenon in the USA (and not related to southern Indian cuisine): There are restaurants called “ X Inn” or “Inn at Y” that have nary a room for rent.

Idiom for mistaking the part for the whole
I think this is it and the idiom would be “She’s like the blind men and the elephant.”
