I've always been one who wanted to understand how everything worked. I drove my parent's crazy asking "Why?" or "How?" all the time.
The Stack Exchange sites have been a fantastic source of information for me over the last few months and now I've finally made an account because I haven't been able to find the answer to a question I have.
Update Feb 04, 2020: It pains me to say that Stack Exchange is no longer the site it was a few years ago when I joined. Many casual users don't know what's been happening. Unfortunately, Stack Exchange (the company) is actively harming it's most key volunteers (going as far as making demonstrably false statements about a moderator to a press outlet). There has been a steady stream of moderator resignations in protest. Sadly, corporate continues to repeatedly double down rather than walking back their decisions.
Take a look at https://stackexchange-timeline.webflow.io/ (thanks to user/mod Samuel Liew) for a history of Stack Exchange and notice the dark turn that started in late September 2019.
Also take a look at https://jlericson.com/2020/02/02/2019_in_review.html to see some behind-the-scenes issues from a former SE employee.
