I crossed out the word "stories" but my teacher marked it incorrect, so I expostulated with him.

Maybe for him, these two words looked the same, but I argued that "you can not know for sure what an American or a British would choose."

After I crossed out the word "stories", the teacher marked this one incorrect so I expostulated with him. To get a complete picture you should know that my teacher does not know English at the proper level and speaks with a perceptible Russian accent (just like I, but I'm a 13yo student).

To end the dispute, I need to find out what intelligent people think about it. Maybe for you, these two words look the same, but I said that "you can not know for sure what an American or a British would choose." Soooo. What would you choose? What is the difference between them? Did I have the right to cross out this word?
