The closest I can think of in this case would be "The early bird gets the worm" which implies that if you let someone else beat you to an oppurtunity they will get it and you won't.

I might suggest that you have flip-flopped on the idea of buying a new phone but ultimately decided to purchase it. I might also say that you waffled on the idea before buying your new phone.
