Nov 13, 2020 at 15:15 comment added Kevin Troy "The Island" might refer to Governors Island, which was used by the U.S. Army as a military stockade from the Civil War through the end of the 19th century. Or Crane could be using "the Island" to refer to Long Island, i.e. Brooklyn and Queens -- no one would say that today, but I'm not sure about 130 years ago....
