All the while it's not in doubt that Brits may use "long a", is it? I wouldn't know, I doubt both a your answers.

And how exactly do you know what constructions they DON'T use? I can understand hearing things, but how do you exactly track what you haven't heard or noticed? Also, when you hear those random British English speakers use the so-called "ADJECTIVE a" construction, how do you know they don't mean "ADJECTIVE of a" when you yourself in this question state you don't understand it. Again, I have sources supporting what I've said, and you've got supposition based on nothing but your failure to hear.
Aug 29, 2019 at 4:09 | comment | added | Benjamin Harman | First, you don't think? How about you come up with some actual evidence of those assertions, like I did with my linked sources. I have evidence to back up what I said. You don't. All you have is what you "think," which is baseless conjecture.
Aug 29, 2019 at 3:14 | comment | added | herisson | I don't think it's correct to say that "ADJECTIVE a" is a contraction of "ADJECTIVE of a". There seem to be British English speakers who do not use the "ADJECTIVE of a" construction, but who do use the "ADJECTIVE a" construction.
