Jul 19, 2013 at 20:36 comment added Rex Kerr I've mostly just heard "he's a tall poppy" with the consequences left unsaid (but implied to be bad indeed given the tone of voice). And it seems to be directed, in my experience, not entirely at non-conformity, but self-importance. (But usually it's non-conformity being interpreted as an expression of self-importance.) Anyway, +1--this seems to be the best fit to me even if it's not quite perfect.
