I am a physician; I trained as a general internist, and work as a hospitalist - that is, I have no office practice. My practice is limited to patients who are admitted to the hospital. I am an assistant professor of medicine at my hospital's associated medical university. In addition to my MD, I hold an MPH (Masters in Public Health) in Health Policy and Management.

I am a native New Yorker, having lived within 25 miles of the Empire State Building for almost my entire life. I am Jewish, but not observant, and I am gay.
