What are the defective verbs in English?
@Greybeard: It depends on what the goal is. A survey of a few native speakers is not guaranteed to be representative of all English speakers, but if the verb "stride" is defective for them, that is an interesting piece of data, and the question of how to explain remains even if turns out that "stride" is non-defective for other native speakers.

What are the defective verbs in English?
@Greybeard: Pullum reports not that multiple forms out of "'stridden/strode/strid" sounded acceptable to him, but that none did: "None of them sounded familiar or even mildly acceptable to us as native speakers." Of course, this report is not necessarily representative of all speakers.

IPA Pronunciation - what is the difference between ð, θ, and θj
So you're saying you hear no difference between "thy thigh" and "thigh thigh" other than length? And "Arthur" (with θ) and "farther" (with ð) rhyme?
