Can an article be capitalized, to cause emphasis of a subject. Specifically the indefinite article A or An. I tried researching this and found capitalization rules but none in regard to being used midsentence.

For example

The subject, then asked for, A drop of hand sanitizer.

Is there a rule that we can capitalize an indefinite article midsentence.

The sentence has weird punctuation too. Where did you find it? Apr 8, 2022 at 7:24
  • No, we don't emphasise words by capitalising the article. You might capitalise the word itself, but it would be more usual to use italics. Apr 8, 2022 at 8:04
  • A useful rule is to compare a version with less punctuation. If you can use less, use less: The subject then asked for a drop of hand sanitizer. Apr 8, 2022 at 13:35
  • Thanks everyone. The sentence came from a police report. I just discovered this website, thanks, I love it.
