Someone has been searching for his spectacles for an hour. He is thinking that someone has hidden his spectacles and asks one of his friends whether he is hiding them or not. His friend says, " If I have hidden your spectacles, I would have already given them to you." Is it correct to use present perfect in If conditional? The situation is in the present (now).

  • The only thing strictly ungrammatical with that sentence is the pronoun. It should be I would have already given them to you. On the other hand, it would be a lot more common, and idiomatic, to say if I had. – Jason Bassford May 20 '20 at 16:10
