We know that if there are coordinate clauses they are joined by coordinating conjunctions. But in the following sentence there is no coordinating conjunction. But to my mind it is a compound sentence.

  • (a)We brace up our hearts thinking (b) if winter comes,(c)can spring be far behind?

In the line above (a) and (c) are evidently coordinate clauses. Can we do without a coordinator in a compound sentence?
