Which one from these are mostly usable? For example the sentence:

Judging by his reaction, he didn't want to talk about that incident.

When should I use "Based upon" or "according to" - are they just formal ones? Please explain the difference.

  • 'Judging by' means that you are making a judgment about the person's state of mind from his behaviour. 'According to' usually refers to information that somebody gave you or that you read - 'According to The Times, the Prime Minister said...' There is no difference in formality. – Kate Bunting Apr 20 at 12:01
