Which of the replies can be used correctly? Aska: You look tired.
Lara: A- I woke up all night. B- I've woken up all night. C- I've been waking up all night. The suggested answer is C. Why are the other options wrong? Reference: Practical English Usage by Michael Swan. enter image description here

  • "I've been waking up in the night a lot" suggests that the person has been in the habit of doing so over several different nights. The dialogue you quote seems to refer only to the previous night, and none of your alternatives is idiomatic English. It would be more natural to say "I kept on waking up in the night." A and B do not work at all. – Kate Bunting Jan 24 at 16:33
