While creating a program that randomly creates sentences with available words that I have preprogrammed, I found a set of words that work together normally, but when combined are questionable.

That combination is a possessive followed directly be a contraction, such as:

My friend's name's Chris

Normally, if I were writing this sentence, I would have written

My friend's name is Chris.

I never would have thought to follow the possessive with a contraction.

So is that sentence correct or not? Is it correct but just awkward, or is it grammatically incorrect?

  • Correct but awkward, IMHO. – Barmar Jan 2 at 17:17
