Good day. i encountered the following sentence:

I feel inadequate, like a child raking an advanced calculus class.

i generally understand that in this sentence the gerund "raking" means understanding. But i raked a number of dictionaries and found no such meaning. Can you tell me the meaning? Regards.

Neither taking nor raking is a gerund in this sentence construction. – Jason Bassford Nov 8 at 20:54
