Can a sentence start with "The highest" in an academic paper? It sounds a bit strange.

My original sentence is

When the specificity values of the devices were evaluated, the highest specificity value was obtained...

I want to reduce the word count. So, I want to write this:

The highest specificity value was obtained...

Is it correct?

No problem at all: "The highest specificity" forms the subject of the rest of your sentence to come.
