In the phrase

"I'd like to study the work of prof. X, which is nearest to my interests"

should the article "the" be omitted in front of "nearest"?

I'd include it, though many would not. – BillJ Mar 24 '18 at 17:26
  • Please clarify 'should the article "the" be omitted in front of "nearest"?' Are you looking at "I'd like to study the work of prof. X, which is the nearest to my interests" or what, please? Either way, the posted original looks a lot better. – Robbie Goodwin Apr 7 '18 at 19:19
