I am wondering if the following phrase is grammatically correct: "I am applying at the referral of...?"

Thank you!

  • I am not sure why this question was put on hold. According to the website questions about grammar are appropriate: english.stackexchange.com/tour. My question was if the preposition 'at' in 'at the referral of' is used correctly. Perhaps the question was not clear enough. Can you please explain why this was put on hold? Jan 19 '18 at 0:04
  • I wasn't involved, but I can see the question doesn't show research. Avoid posting questions that do not detail the effort you have already made to find an answer, solutions you have already rejected, and why. Such questions may be closed as lacking research effort until they are edited to include research. Research can take many forms: checking references such as an online English dictionary, thesaurus, or grammar, searching this site for similar questions, searching the web, or putting substantial thought into the question on your own.

  • Also avoid proofreading or rewriting requests. “How should I write this?”, “is this correct?”, and “which is correct?” questions are out of scope and your question may be removed. If there is an unstated specific concern, such as “What does (word) mean in context?” or “How does (grammar or punctuation rule) apply in context?” ask that question instead. From your comment I guess your underlying question is about the use of the preposition "at". That needs to be made clear in the question.

Yes, it's fine. I personally think it sounds rather sophisticated.
