I'm trying to write a short story and I want to say someone said "aah" in a painful way but I don't know what verb to use.

I have googled this and came up with words like groan, moan but when I searched for sound effects of these words, they weren't the ones I was looking for.

  • What probably didn't help your question was that you didn't provide any words yourself, with a specific question, and I noticed you asked for a verb but it sounds more like you might be looking for an adjective or adverb. Maybe you can fix the question and have it re-opened! :-) – Kristina Lopez Dec 18 '17 at 17:19

Perhaps you could use wailed or howled?
