Well as the title says, is there a word for a person who talks before they think? And if it is, whats the word and what's the antonym? I need to know this for to characters in a novel. Thank you in advance.

  • Do you mean they yap a lot before they think? – vickyace Mar 29 '17 at 10:53
  • Yes. But is there a single word for that? :) – Nicole Mar 29 '17 at 11:00

    Impulsive: showing behaviour in which you do things suddenly without any planning and without considering the effects they may have: Don't be so impulsive - think before you act. – user66974 Mar 29 '17 at 11:09
  • @Josh The request is for something different. – vickyace Mar 29 '17 at 11:10

    @vickyace - Mr. Impulsive – user66974 Mar 29 '17 at 11:11

loose-tongued adj

careless or irresponsible in talking.

It seems 'tight-lipped' can be used as an antonym of 'loose-tongued'.

tight-lipped adj

Reluctant to speak; close-mouthed.

Impetuous seems to capture the essence of Acting without thinking .

So this is a great question. The answer is you are looking for can only be determined by thencharacters in the book you are readingm you know them better then anyone else. They may think before they speak but the true question is. Howw they answer it. The word is up to you to desribe that for them. But in in general a person who thinks before they speak as we all know is considered smart.
