The word "Quinoa " has been debated in my office on multiple occasions. I would like to know the proper or at the very least, most popular pronunciation. I would also like to know if it requires capitalisation. I have viewed several versions via you tube, regardless what the Oxford and Webster dictionaries say.

Dictionaries, even Wikipedia, all have pronunciation information; today, lots of them even have embedded recordings of someone pronouncing the word. You can also just type it into YouTube and see what comes up. And no, quinoa is no more capitalized than wheat, rice, potatoes, or any other staple food. It's a common noun, not a proper noun. – Dan Bron Jan 16 '17 at 14:25

kee nwah. That's how they pronounce it on TV. – Mitch Jan 16 '17 at 14:29
  • Free Dictionary gives four different pronunciations. Or a third of a dozen. – Edwin Ashworth Jan 16 '17 at 15:18
  • Well Edwin, that's my point. I CAN and have found several versions, however, I thought someone on this sight may know the correct pronunciation. Perhaps it is considered a foreign language word. – user214895 Jan 17 '17 at 5:21
  • @user214895 Your error lies in believing this a matter of correctness rather than custom. It is not. But Mitch has given you all you need. – tchrist Jan 17 '17 at 8:25
