In a course, I've heard about the notion of parochial interests along with the notion of public/private interests. It seems there is a distinction between the private and parochial, as they are listed both here :
What is not in the public interest?
- Private interests — of a particular individual or individuals
- Parochial interests — i.e., the interests of a small or narrowly defined group of people with whom the decision-maker shares an interest or concern
I have read the following definition of parochial : "characterized by an unsophisticated focus on local concerns to the exclusion of wider contexts"
But even with this, I am not sure to understand the difference between parochial and private interests. So what's the difference between them?
