In the following phrase, how do I hyphenate correctly?

"Here we have two well documented and frequently used concepts of language."

I thought it should be the following because I know the rule for not hyphenating ly-adverbs.

"well-documented and frequently used concepts"

However, it looks strange on the page to have one compound hyphenated and the other one without a hyphen.

Can anyone help?

  • A workaround is 'well-documented and often-used concepts', but there's nothing wrong with your version. You don't need to invoke Orwell's Sixth here. – Edwin Ashworth Nov 4 '16 at 16:42
