I try not to use 'guys' because I think it's inane. A 'guy' is something you throw on a bonfire on 5th November. What would be wrong with 'hello everyone'? – WS2 Jan 13 '14 at 8:50
  • @WS2 too many syllables. – Mr Lister Jan 13 '14 at 12:40
  • I still feel that "guy" refers to men (as in "Guys and Dolls"), as do many others in the UK, and that it is excessively informal in some situations. – Phil M Jones Jan 13 '14 at 14:10
  • @PhilMJones The OP did say "informal". He didn't however, mention a country, so you do have a point. – Mr Lister Jan 13 '14 at 15:46
