Oct 23 at 19:26 comment added Mari-Lou A I'll never ask again with people like you here that's a shame, eight people were kind enough to spend time searching, editing, composing answers they believed would help you. And you ignore them all by stating "audition fits the best answer" Note I commented after you posted the solution without any explanation. And all these comments by users, all trying to lend a hand and never once you responded to them.
Oct 23 at 16:13 comment added Ben Voigt While "to impress a group" might have been a more straightforward explanation, "to curry favor with" isn't wrong. The goal is to make a favorable impression.

Oct 23 at 10:46 comment added user579966 It's also my very first question and you are rude. Don't worry, I'll never ask again with people like you here.
Oct 23 at 10:35 comment added Mari-Lou A Many a time, I'm just pointing out that no one suggested "audition" because the title and your description of currying favour within a group, didn't help. If you had said "interview" maybe someone would have offered audition as the solution. By the way, don't be surprised if the answer is not received enthusiastically, it's very bare.

Oct 21 at 8:50 comment added Stuart F Historically a masterpiece was " a work of a very high standard produced to obtain membership of a guild or academy in various areas of the visual arts and crafts" but that meaning has been superseded by the more general sense of a very good or best-in-class work.
