Aug 4, 2022 at 21:29 comment added Peter Shor @ColinFine: Even worse, the name of the town Palmer in central Massachusetts is supposed to be pronounced Parmer (with an /r/). Presumably, what happened was that central Massachusetts used to be non-rhotic, but it isn't anymore.
