If so, add it to the answer in a link (preferably with a quote of the relevant part) I'm not dismissing your answer, by the way. It's just that there are many of these "folk etymologies" for common phrases and most, but not all, are completely made up. It's nice to find one that's true, though, so if you can find evidence, please add it. | |
