Apr 18, 2017 at 20:18 | comment | added | RaceYouAnytime | @G.Ann-SonarSourceTeam You make a valid point. I think it could be (mistakenly?) interpreted as Past Unreal Conditional + Continuous, and I've seen it used that way colloquially (as in, "Were you guys running the marathon at 6am?" "No, we would've been just waking up.") but in the interest of providing a quality answer I'm removing the phrase you quoted, esp. since it's not relevant to the OP. Thanks!

Apr 18, 2017 at 19:25 | comment | added | G. Ann - SonarSource Team | IMO, this is wrong: "implies that either August is in the past or that...". Whether or not August is in the past, the relationship is.
Apr 18, 2017 at 14:43 | comment | added | Rick Henderson | The big difference here is the use of "We will have..." instead of "We would have...". Using will is more correct in your case @Melissa.
Apr 18, 2017 at 12:03 | comment | added | Tim | This must be the only way to say it, assuming you are still together in August! Otherwise, 'We would have been'... Do you know something he doesn't?!
Apr 18, 2017 at 11:40 | comment | added | skymningen | In some kind of strange on-off (summer holiday?) relationship, you might be able to be together for three years all in August. Just kidding. ;-) Nice correct answer, of course, including the entry sentence.

Apr 18, 2017 at 1:33 | comment | added | Jim | “We would have been together for 3 years in August” can mean “Had we still been together, we would have been celebrating our 3 year anniversary. But since we broke up last week we won’t be doing that.”. Your suggested sentence is right though.
