The two ends of the scale naturally can be emphasized: "very active" and "very inactive". But the middle ground cannot be emphasized. You can't be "very moderately active". Using this emphasis construct, we see that "very sporadic" means less than "sporadic", so sporadic is a synonym for inactive. Same for "very infrequently". However, "very periodically" [sic] suggests it's in fact neither extreme.
