Sep 11, 2018 at 22:03 comment added Erin John Levins @Gossar I agree this is a Shibboleth. In New Orleans, "calliope" is deliberately pronounced "cal -ee - ope" to weed out the non-natives. In the same way, "Chartres Street" is pronounced "char-TER" and "Carondolet" is pronounced with a hard "T" and Esplanade rhymes with Lemondade!
