A company is using the term "Milanese Loop" for one of the watch armbands for the digital Watch.

I understand that Milanese is related to the Italian city of Milan. Yet my Internet research has not brought up any other use of the term "Milanese Loop" other than in relation to the said watch.

Is this term made up by the company, or has it existed previously?

  • So far we have had people saying "Have you looked it up?" and "it obviously comes from Milan". We even have people quoting sources saying that the came from Milan. But how do we know these modern sources haven't just guessed or copied from other similar sources. Has anyone got any good evidence? Such as someone quoting a contemporary source?

No, it is a well-known kind of watch bracelet:

Milanese:

  • is a nickname for a mesh bracelet, from the Italian phrase "tessuto milanese" or "golden hair."

  • In practice, the mesh is super comfortable to wear, due to flexibility and breathability. Just make sure to get the correct length, as removing or adding links is impossible.

Obviously, the Milanese style comes from Milan (It. Milano), the capital of Lombardy in Italy.
