comment Word meaning “to convert into a numerical form”?
I was hoping for a word that would carry the idea of "transforming to a numeric form for the purpose of numerical operations". "Parse" doesn't imply anything about what you plan to do after parsing. "Numericize" (as little-used as it may be) seems to carry the idea better.

comment Hyphen in the noun 'switching-off'? Or gerunds of compound verbs, more generally?
This concept was also mentioned by the Department of Justice, so it seems to be a good rule of thumb.

comment What is the origin of the phrase “and nothing of value was lost”?
Why would anyone downvote this? This deserves a +1 just for the sheer amount of work that was put in.

There's actually been a discussion on this already, albeit on a different web site.
