Meaning of “take the way” +1: it feels fine to me. |

When should one use the comma versus the semicolon, and vice versa? Copying entire pages like this doesn't seem fair to eHow or its author, and - because I doubt it qualifies as fair use - it's probably illegal. |

What words are commonly mispronounced by literate people who read them before they heard them? Annnd a nearly identical thread from two years ago, heh. Good times! |

What does the phrase “Begging the question” mean? @Colin Fine: I should think it's still (for a little while) reasonable to consider this new usage incorrect. I doubt very many of those who use 'beg' to mean 'prompt' are aware of its logical context, which means they are doing so from a perspective of ignorance. (For comparison, it is far more common for people to misuse 'there' for 'their'. The fact that it's high school students doing so instead of CNN news anchors seems sort of irrelevant to me.) |

“Irregardless” vs. “irrespective” I don't see how the number of appearances in COCA suggests anything about a word's properness. 'tremulant' only has two hits, while 'cromulent' has eight. The Corpus is a measure of rarity, not correctness. |

Alternative to “maze” as a description for Pacman's environment? I have a quibble with 'graph'. Graphs are interconnected nodes, and it doesn't feel like there are nodes per se at the end of every "wall." Also, some levels contain "floating" sections that are not connected with the rest of the board. (To be fair, however, one could certainly model a Pacman board as a graph.) |
