Should I use “even though” or “although” in the following sentence?

Is it correct to say: “(drink) was getting to him/her?”
@Kris Well, maybe I'm mistaken, but I read the sentence like this: "The wine was getting to her
brain
." It's the alcohol that gets there, not the wine. Maybe I'm thinking too much.

Should I use “like a…” or “like the one of a…” in the following sentence?
@janoChen Oh you are right. But I guess using
's
at the end is practically the same thing.

@jwpat7 Thanks for the suggestion. I guess the sentence is better off without that adverb.
