OK well use a different example then. "The report demonstrated that Canadians are more likely to be denied entry than are Americans." You wouldn't want to elide the "are" in this case, because "The report demonstrated that Canadians are more likely to be denied entry than Americans" sounds awkward. So which sounds better? "The report demonstrated that Canadians are more likely to be denied entry than are Americans" or "The report demonstrated that Canadians are more likely to be denied entry than Americans are"?
