comment Word or phrase for 'a much hyped discovery which later turns out to be insignificant or of no value'
@tchrist - "all that is gold does not glitter" is a Tolkienism; it's part of the poem written by Bilbo about Aragorn.

comment What to call the best student in a class?
@Random832, Dason: at my school, we had a valedictorian and salutatorian, but a number of students within the top 20 or so were invited to submit graduation speeches, and the administration chose two to be delivered - and (IIRC) neither the valedictorian nor the salutatorian were selected.

comment Meaning of “to pivot to do something”
It doesn't have to be a "screwup" per se; it can simply be that a company thought they'd be able to make a business out of fixing problem A; they talked to enough customers to realize no one would pay enough to solve A, but they got enough requests to fix problem B that they "pivot" to work on B instead.

comment Terminology for fake photograph
These are nice terms, but unfortunately I would think they only work when written; when spoken they would sound too similar to the originals.
