comment Does English have words to describe the lowest rank member of society?
A small correction. The word 'Rakyat' in Indonesian simply means "The People", and does not carry the connotation of being powerless or the lowest ranked member of society. Adding a qualifier "Jelata" to transform it into "Rakyat jelata" would be more appropriate, since it connotes powerless people.
