I spent my Junior year of university in Yamaguchi, Japan, and am currently studying for N1 to get into a post-grad program to become an interpreter. My understanding of Japanese has swung from textbook to practical and back to textbook, but I'm always trying to improve it!

@fumbleFingers I realize how I put it was a little confusing, but if your answer was "Standard rules of grammar simply don't concern themselves with parenthetical wordplay like that" then...that's a valid answer...I don't understand why you're upset.

@hammar I think that trying to avoid "link" as the actual link is good advice, but at the same time I find whole-sentence links hard to read, and I always mouse over every word to make sure it's all the same one! I'll keep that in mind though :)
