This distinction between "newbie" and "noob" is far from common except in certain parts of the Internet, which is not a sample reflective of general English usage. I suggest that your answer might be improved with some supporting evidence, though. When two words are "misused to the point of confusion" that can be a sign that the words are not seen as distinct by the general population.
