English Language & Usage Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for linguists, etymologists, and serious English language enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Philosophy is loving wisdom. This perhaps is the vaguest the definition would ever become, because interpreting such endeavor demands the absence of etymology, for the terms shall not show its purpose. Love of knowledge, and search for truth at some point is broad and misleading definition as it does not clarify what concerns this field. Loving wisdom then is a quality a philosopher should posses, yet suffices not the nature of the subject.
