My perceptions of "basket case" are not working out a good understanding of this term which I know the meaning of it is neither basket nor case at all.

Tried to lookup the origin of the term but failed. Anyone knows?

This question is too basic; it can be definitively and permanently answered by a single link to a standard internet reference source designed specifically to find that type of information. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.
