English Language & Usage Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for linguists, etymologists, and serious English language enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

First of all, this is a good Q&A site for english enthusiasts along with stackoverflow, where i freak out most of time. Does pronunciation or accent in english really matter? Because, I myself dont have a American/European style of speaking accent. But, when i have conversation with them, it really kills me. I just love the way they speak, describe, explain. To my knowledge, most of the Asians do not have a good vocabulary, grammar, cool accent and describing capabilities. Quiet often, Asians kill this beautiful language, mixing their regional language's accent with english, and its a hybrid english(we call it a butler english).

Note: This is not meant to hurt anybody. Just a curiosity to know what people really think.

Hi Nuthan. Glad to hear you love English :) I'm afraid questions like this, where there is no correct answer and answers are only based on people's opinions, are not a good fit for Stack Exchange. Questions asked on a Stack Exchange site should ideally be definitively answerable. Have a read of our FAQ and how to ask questions for more information. – Matt Эллен Feb 24 '12 at 8:54
Capitalization does really matter, as in English, not english. – Kris Feb 24 '12 at 9:05

Accents, whether foreign or home-grown, are a problem only if:

(a) they produce incomprehensible speech; or

(b) they distract from what the speaker is saying.
