There's a song with the lyrics she has diamonds on the inside, what does it mean? I am quite confused. Maybe the writer means that she is tough, or maybe it's a figurative way to say she has a lot of value. What does it mean?

It's very hard to tell without knowing the band or even knowing the rest of the lyrics. I quickly googled and found the song, and it appears that it's being used as a metaphor for a woman who is very materialistic, in that all she has on the inside are diamonds. Of course depending on your view, there could be other meanings. – Pureferret Dec 10 '11 at 15:49
The problem with lyric meanings is that they are often hugely open to interpretation, making a single meaning difficult to pin down. Since this is the case in this question, it means you may end up getting more interpretations than explanations. That said, the song (I'm now to referring to "Diamonds on the Inside" by "Ben Harper") seems to refer to a girl who, like all humans, has her flaws and has made her mistakes and must pay for them, but has the beauty and inherent strength to face what she's done, hence "Diamonds on the inside." - beautiful and difficult to break. – malgca Dec 10 '11 at 16:58
Please add more context. We don't know the song, so we can't tell you what we think the song writer means. – Matt Эллен Dec 10 '11 at 18:52
