Hi misho - are you aware that this is a Sanskrit word? Sharvan is not a word commonly used in English, and so this question is off topic. – Matt E. Эллен Sep 29 '11 at 12:35
I bet if you asked Sharvan, he'd know. – onomatomaniak Sep 29 '11 at 12:36
Sorry, my mistake, Sharvan is not a Sanskrit word, it is a person's name. I was misreading it as Shravan. I seem to be doing that a lot today. – Matt E. Эллен Sep 29 '11 at 13:22

Proper names should be pronounced how the person with the name tells you to pronounce them.

Even in cases where the word clearly comes from another language and you know how that word is pronounced in that language, you don't know how it may have been Anglicized since that person's family started speaking English.
