How about "scatterbrain", seemingly from 1790? Although, it's hard to trust those figures without sources. |

Good answers above, but "space cadet" does not imply absent-minded as much as inexperienced. So some synonyms for "space cadet" that spring to mind are greenhorn, tenderfoot, new chum. |
