Maybe the style of using the word 'asset' to stand for resource files in web applications comes from Ruby on Rails, but every time I read the word asset, then I can not get the meaning of that.

Does it stand for the resource files just like JavaScript, CSS, image, etc. What's the meaning of asset?

Refer the Wikipedia article Asset. There are some definitions in accounting, so it often confuses me, what asset stands for.

In graphic design and marketing, asset is used to refer to files like stock photos and templates that are used in a campaign. See the Graphic Design Stack Exchange question graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/4849/… – JLG Jan 29 at 16:30
In general, an "asset" is something of value, something that is good to have. The assets that accountants usually talk about are things like cash, stocks and bonds, real estate, and the like. To the military, assets are soldiers and tanks and aircraft and so on. In a computer system, assets would presumably be various kinds of data: graphics, text files, etc. – Jay Jan 29 at 16:59

This question is too basic; it can be definitively and permanently answered by a single link to a standard internet reference source designed specifically to find that type of information. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.
